Mmmrrff!! Just got off from practising the violin. I am proud to say that I can play tunes that sound like a squawking chicken. heh! OK, I'm not that bad but I've got a long way to go. I've only been on the violin for ½ year so I think where I am is not too bad. Thank God for my parents who had the sense to put me through piano lessons when I was kid so it makes learning the violin easier. I don't have to worry so much about reading notes and understanding theory so I can focus on playing techniques, which is a real big thing. (by the way, I'm listening to Yo-Yo Ma right now. My Joshua Bell CD is in the car..what a cutie! :P But I think he needs to change his hairstyle - I don't like his floppy fringe hair. At least it's gelled up in this picture.)
I think the best way to improve playing techniques, is not only through practising, but playing in a group, like an orcheastra. My flute-playing skills improved a lot when I was playing with the band back in school. I haven't touched the instrument in a while. I think I lost my embrouchure and back to sounding like air on the flute..heh!
Seriously, I think music is a wonderful thing. I'm not just talking about music that is played by bands of today like The Killers, whatever Boys or Linkin' Park whatever. I'm talking about REAL music that feeds the soul, music that has power, not just clanging cymbals, drumbeats and the sound of the electric guitar. I'm perfectly fine with that for these instruments have a style and life of their own. What I really appreciate is the use of instruments like the piano, violin, cello, harps, etc. on their own are capable of expressing so much of human emotions. That's why the best musicians are the best because they pour their heart and soul into it, for the love of it. Not because they are making it to platinum record sales or for sell-out concerts but simply for the love of it.
Thank God for music. Thank God for talents to play music. Thank God with music.
