As suggested by Gabriel, this post will be dedicated to good (read: cheap)parking spots in town. This should be useful for weekends. Be warned though, that they can be quite packed.

Orchard Road area
Singapore Power Building - $1 per entry on Saturday till 11pm
Cairnhill (next to Heeren)- $2.50 for the first 3 hours (after that, I think it's $1.10 per hour or part thereof)
Heeren - $3 per entry on Saturday (usually very crowded - there's alway a Q to get in there)
Shaw Centre - $2 per entry after 6pm on Saturday
Cineleisure - $3 per entry after 6pm on Saturday
Open space carpark next to Wheelock Place - Free after 10pm

Raffles City/Suntec area
Raffles City - $2 for the first 4 hours after 1pm on Saturday (not too sure of the rates after the 4 hours)
Suntec - $2.10 per entry after 6pm (Mon - Fri. Not too sure if the same applies for weekends)
Millenia Walk - $2 per entry on weekends
Marina Square - $1.50 per entry in the evenings & weekends
Padang open space carpark - Free after 10pm (it's the parallel parking along Connaught Drive)

Elsewhere
China Square - $2.10 per entry on Saturdays (and after 6pm on weekdays)
Far East Square - $2.10 per entry on Saturdays (and after 6pm on weekdays)
OCBC Centre - $3 per entry on Saturdays

After being in NYC, I think that parking in Singapore is no longer expensive. Parking in land-starved Manhattan is exorbitant. It costs US$4.92 + tax per half an hour to park. I hear that it's probably just as bad or worse in the west coast, such as in LA. It's probably the most profitable business in NYC - to operate a carpark. Heheeh!

Now that you know where the el cheapo parking spots are, please do not fight for parking spaces with me in town.
