I love the nail colour - I got it from Anna Sui :)
It's just SO fun being a girl. I suppose growing up in an all-boy family made me more aware of who & what I am (FYI, I'm the only girl among 10 grandchildren my maternal grandparents have). Thank God that I didn't end up being such a tomboy or some kind of a butch. I remember when I was in school, the principal used to speak up against girls who like dressing up/looking like boys. She always said that it's great being a girl because a girl gets to dress up & still look good in trousers without anyone say that she's weird; a girl can put on make-up, perfume & have the whole world fall at her feet. Now, I get it. I LOVE being female :)
I think being female is something guys will never ever understand. Why fret over that chipped nail or why the fuss over bad hair day? Simple. Because if we don't, we will be accused of looking unkempt & be relegated to the League of Revolting Aunties. It's that same ol' notion where all females are supposed to look like divas or else be written off from the face of the earth.
Tell me honestly, in as much as inner beauty IS real beauty, would anyone take a second look at a female who looks less than fantastic? How many times have we bitched about some other female that has got horrible (not just bad) hair days, or that she needs a total wardrobe revamp or that she needs to learn how to walk properly? I admit that I'm guilty of that - I go around sniffing out bad hair-dos, bad dressing, etc. I'm a real bitch at this, not that I look fantastic myself. If I have anything to say in my defence (EXCUSES, EXCUSES!), it's because I want to be sure that (1) I do not end up looking like that (2) I learn from the fashion (or lack of it) mistakes of these poor female souls.
But really, at the end of the day, when one possesses inner beauty, it shows on the outside. The face glows, the eyes sparkle, the lips speak of good things & the hands are gentle. Audrey Hepburn was the most beautiful woman in the world but despite that she had this to say.
"For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run his fingers through it once a day.
For poise, walk with the knowledge you'll never walk alone ...
People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived,
reclaimed and redeemed and redeemed and redeemed.
Never throw out anybody.
Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you'll find one at the end of your arm.
As you grow older you will discover that you have two hands.
One for helping yourself, the other for helping others."
This wasn't written by Audrey Hepburn. It was, in fact, her favourite poem by Sam Levenson & I think it's something she truly lived her life by.
If there's anything I can do to be really beautiful, it is to look to my Creator, the true source of beauty. And if there's anything else I can say, everybody is beautifully & wonderfully made in His image. So fellow sistas, we are all dashing divas in our own right. (Guys, you are all ermmm... dashing dudes.. heh!)
