The Men in my Life

I've got 4 men in my life & each of them mean something to me in their own special way.

This is Ah Kong - Mum's daddy. An octogenarian who has a corny sense of humour. He was the man who introduced me to cigarettes at the tender age of 5. Somehow, it didn't catch on, especially when he gave the ciggies the butt as well. He's the man who told me the truth behind the kungfu shows, that people cannot fly from tree to tree & that it's impossible for smoke to come out from the body when someone tries to purge poison out of another.

The funny man who loves to imitate the sound of a rat/mouse squeaking to freak the hell out of me is the same serious man who gives his opinions on politics. A self-taught physician, or sometimes quack, he has a cure for every ache or strange symptom the body has. Makes fantastic oyster omelette & owns a pair of samurai swords. This is Ah Kong, MY Ah Kong.

This is Yeh Yeh - Pa's daddy. The most generous man I've ever come across - he always packs food for me because he's afraid I'll die of hunger/starvation (as if! :p) But seriously, he is such a generous person with the biggest of hearts. Yeh Yeh used to sponsor the cost of my lanterns at every Mid-Autumn Festival & it didn't bother him if I insisted on that ugly butterfly one that blasted Lambada each time i flicked the switch on.

Yeh Yeh is one tough beefcake - he used to train with the British Army as a body-builder. He taught me that the police do more than just catch thieves - he told me that they catch smugglers who try to sell naughty children away to some unknown land! (That was a lot to take for a 6 year-old.) Once my portable, living bus & street directory before I got my driver's licence & car, it's now my pleasure to take him to those rare dinners with the extended family. My Yeh Yeh - the one who gave me my family name.

This is my Pa - one & only. The one man who taught me what it is to live & to laugh is the very same man who showed me what love is. He gives me all the thumbs up to every possible thumbs down situation & he always gives me reason to know that I am loved no matter what.

Pa is the man who has set the standard for the kind of man I want to be with for the rest of my life. Pa is the man who makes the sun shine brighter, the moon rounder than it should be, the stars more brilliant than they already are.

He is the man who showed me that the world is bigger than the well - that there is so much to see in this world. The man who opened my eyes to the world beyond my comfort, he provided for me the best life, the best education I could have. He gave me so much even though he took less for himself. He's the best person who looks at everything through the most brilliant mind I've ever come across. Pa's the best person to get seriously stupid with & stupidly serious with. If I could live this life again, I cannot ask for a better man than this - my Pa.

This one - my brother. The other half of the deadly duo 'The Siblings Chan'. If farts could kill, I would have died a long time ago. This young man who gives me endless hours of mindless sanity is the very young man who is about to embark on some very permenantly head damaging psychology (pity me - I have been subjected to that for the last ?? years).

Sane & sober only when his ears are plugged into the headphones of his decks, he lives to throw flames at anything politically incorrect. He is the bravest soul for enduring the pain of having the skin of his foot pulled out by Yeh Yeh's bicycle spoke when he thought it was funny to stick his toes in there. The sweetest boy who huddled along with me when we lost our hamsters for 10minutes behind the cupboard. Now the domestic king, I refuse to admit that he makes better dinners than I do. The best person to get really retarded with, the best person who makes me feel that it is not a crime to be an idiot, the best person I can compete with for producing farts & the best person who helps the child in me stay within - my brother.

Now, now, the BIG question - who will be the man that takes up the next spot in my life? Will he be handsome? Will he be rich? Que sera sera - whatever will be, will be. For now, I cannot be happier with these 4 men. Whoever fills this next spot in my life sure has a lot to live up to so he'd better not be rubbish or he will really find himself in a heap of rubbish, as decided by me. He sure has a lot to learn - from the men in my life :)
