Beggers can't be choosers? Oh yes, they sure can!
Last night, after the Christmas party, we packed food for the homeless. My brother & me went round to Grand Central Terminal to look for the homeless. But where are they when you are looking for them? They are all over you, begging you for food, money whatever when you are not in the giving mood but when you are, they are nowhere in sight. We didn't see any around Grand Central Terminal so we walked further to 6th Avenue on 42nd Street & turned back up to 44th Street when we hit 6th Avenue.
We managed to give a packet away to this poor chap sitting across Bryant Park & he was absolutely delighted. The next guy we approached was such an arrogant prick! My brother went up to him with the packet of fried rice & veggie & the guy said, "I don't take shrimp fried rice!" *&^%$#@!! And I thought beggers can't be choosers! Boy! Was my brother pissed man! His ego was given a blow & he was absolutely fuming mad, cursing & swearing away. We gave up giving the food because we couldn't find any of these people AND when we did, we were given that kind of a rejection.
It sure didn't pay to be kind & my brother said that for once, he felt absolutely sour & nasty doing something charitable instead of the 'feel-good' feeling. I mean, seriously, if you're desperate, can you really afford to be so fussy? If anyone can afford to be that fussy, then that person is not desperate, but is just trying to eat off people's kindheartedness.
Next time, if I ever offer you shrimp fried rice, I dare you say 'no', especially if you're a begger.

Looks like the homeless in NY are the same as the UK. Gave a tramp a quid once and he had the cheek to ask me for more. Balls..
