The black suit

I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't watched Spiderman 3. But I do have some things to say about it. It was entertaining but I took home more than entertainment - I was thinking philosophy.
The black suit - the battle within, so reads one of the promotional posters. Many, if not all of us, have a black suit. We all face an inner conflict with our dark sides everyday. The battles we engage with others and whatever situations don't seem that difficult afterall. The biggest battles each of us face are the struggles within - do we have the angel on one side and a trident-welding creature on the other?

Too many a time, whenever we are confronted with situations, we end up fighting with ourselves in terms of the decisions we make and the actions we take. And with each decision made and action taken, people and situations around us are affected. Sometimes we are forced by circumstances and sometimes we make the choice of our own accord. But at the end of the day, we all have to struggle in that black suit at some point.

I remember an episode in Sex and the City (can't remember which season) where Carrie, after her break-up with Mr Big (or was it Aidan), that she went a little wonky in the brain and confronted the other woman out of insecurity. The other woman told her to take a good look at herself and stop being such a judge. It was then that Carrie realised that we are the worst judges of ourselves. In the everyday struggle in the black suit, we, unfortunately, at times, end up shooting ourselves in our own feet.

So we ask ourselves this: do we let the black suit get the better part of us or do we let the worst judge take precedence?
