Roll call

In the midst of all the Chinese New Year visiting & greetings, I started thinking of my friends - those I haven't seen in ages nor talked to in eons. I'm such a terrible friend :'( So I made a mental list of the friends I have to meet up with & I've given myself till end of this year to do so. It's a pretty long time so I'd better not be such a procrastinator.

Sal - friend from primary school. She's the only friend I truly keep in touch with since primary school. Amazing how we 'split' when she went off to Oz to finish her schooling & back in Singapore after that but still managed to stay in touch. Even more amazing was that we went to Law School in England, except in different cities - she in Notts & I in Leeds. An accomplished lawyer she is & a friend to a humble teacher like myself.

Woman - that's how we address each other. My friend from uni & flatmate in Year 2. Crazy as can be, that's what we are. We got to know each other through someone else & we've been pretty firm since. A great lover of animals & even greater lover of God. :)

Kim - another uni friend. Great shopping, coffee & clubbing kaki back in the days where the student life was The Life. I remember going on the same flight as her to Leeds when she was a Fresher while I was going back for Year 2 after the summer break. All that seems so long ago (well, it really was a long time ago). A city chic & definitely someone who appreciates & shares the love for Manolos & Jimmy Choos :)

Fay - friend from secondary school. Actually, we are birthday twins. She got married last year & the last time I saw her was at her wedding. Sure, she's certainly got more commitments now but that shouldn't be an excuse for not meeting up with her.

Angela - otherwise known as my 'por kay'. Don't know why, it's a greeting we used since sec school. It's been ages since we last met. I was her maid-of-honour at her wedding. Angela's got the most wicked handwriting around - small & cursive. I'm so glad that I never had to mark her essays :p But it's a very unique handwriting. My mousepad from Happy House is from her. It's a nice cheery flower - just like Angela :)

I never quite believed my teacher when I was in secondary school when she said that the older you get, the fewer friends you have. All the more I doubted it when I went to JC/Poly & to Uni. Now that I'm working like a mad dog & with my friends all working like mad dogs too, I can now understand why my teacher said that back then. Besides working like mad dogs, there is a lot of balancing work to be done too & that can be so tiring. Slowly, everyone just goes off into their own lives. That is why such a roll call is so important - to think of these people & meet them for old times sake.

Another time, perhaps, for reminisance.
