I smell a cat

As if having a lizard sitting on my scalp wasn't bad enough, just today, a dead cat was discovered in my backyard :(

I arranged earlier for the pest controller to check for termites in the house. Little did either of us expect that a dead cat would be found 'resting' next to the washing machine. That explains why I've been encountering a foul smell the last 3 days. The last time I did my laundry (which was about a week ago), all was normal - the only thing I could smell was the washing detergent and Dettol.

I wonder why the cat (bless it!) decided on my backyard as its final resting place. I couldn't bear to look at it when the pest controller told me of the gruesome discovery. According to him, he guessed that either the cat was poisoned and staggered to my backyard into its resting place, or, it was just ill or injured and needed a place to recover. Whatever the reason may be, it was a real shock to discover the poor/wretched (depends on how you look at it) cat. But I can tell you, the smell was really bad at that particular spot where it rested. The pest controller (bless him!) washed it clean and sprayed some chemical to get rid of the odour and any other creatures that were feasting on the carcass.

This is the second time a dead cat has been found at the washing area. Some years ago, my Dad also made a similar gruesome discovery. Before you think that we are a family of cat-killers, I can assure you that my house is a cat haven because it seems that cats always find some comfortable spot in the garden or anywhere outside the house to deliver the kittens or as a home. It does scare me in the mornings, in my groggy state, when I see a cat jumping out of nowhere. I have also seen a cat make itself very comfortable on the chair outside the house. However, I hate it when the cats cry at night. Not only is it annoying but it is also very eerie. I recall once, some years back, that we could take it no more so we put them in a box with some food and carried them out further away from the house. We thought that was the end until our neighbour's cat discovered that it was comfortable to sleep under our car in the driveway.

I have no time to deal with cats. I definitely prefer dogs anytime. Lovely Goldie is with my Grandpa keeping him company. Otherwise, it would be nice to watch her terrorise cats that are about the same size as her :)
